Commune ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and what we do not do with it.

Information We Collect

Anonymously

When you use Commune you are signed in anonymously through Firebase Authentication. We do not require your name, email address, or any personally identifying information to use the app.

Usage Data

We collect the aggregate number of messages sent and received within the app. This data is used solely for understanding how the app is being used and improving the experience. We do not read, store, or analyze the content of any conversation.

Install Attribution

We use the Facebook SDK to track app installs that originate from our advertisements. This helps us understand which marketing efforts are effective. This data is governed by Meta's data practices and their privacy policy.

What We Do Not Collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit the content of any conversation you have within Commune. All chat data is stored locally on your device only. We have no access to what you say or what the simulated beings say in return.

We do not collect your location, contacts, camera data, or any other device information beyond what is described above.

How Your Data Is Stored

Your conversation history, trust levels, session records, and contact history are stored locally on your device using on-device storage. This data does not leave your device and is not accessible to us.

Anonymous usage statistics are stored securely in Firebase, a platform provided by Google. Firebase data is handled in accordance with Google's security and privacy standards.

Third Party Services

Commune uses the following third party services:

Firebase by Google — anonymous authentication and usage analytics. Firebase Privacy Policy available at firebase.google.com.

Meta SDK — install attribution from advertisements. Meta Privacy Policy available at meta.com.

Anthropic Claude — one of the AI models powering contact conversations. Conversation content is processed by Anthropic's API to generate responses but is not stored by us. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com.

OpenAI — one of the AI models powering contact conversations. Conversation content is processed by OpenAI's API to generate responses but is not stored by us. OpenAI's privacy policy is available at openai.com.

When you initiate a contact conversation your messages are sent to these AI providers solely to generate a response. Neither we nor these providers retain your conversation content beyond the duration of that API call.

Children's Privacy

Commune is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information through the app please contact us and we will take steps to remove it.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app. Continued use of Commune after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
